At Maven Medical Arts in Draper, UT, our mission is to provide lasting value to every client. One way we do that is by offering a wide range of dermal fillers to help our clients boost their self-esteem by adding facial volume while still looking natural and balanced. Today, we reveal everything you need to know about this class of treatments.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers in Draper are injectable gel-like substances that are administered beneath your skin to add volume. According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS), over 1 million people receive dermal filler injections each year. But these fillers aren’t all the same, and at Maven Medical Arts in Draper, UT, we only use hyaluronic-acid based dermal fillers.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a chemical compound produced primarily by your skin. This hypoallergenic substance stands apart from other types of fillers because it is safe and effective for virtually everyone. This is in stark contrast to other fillers that require a pinprick allergy test before treatment to ensure you are not allergic to the active ingredient.
How Long Do Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Last?
Hyaluronic acid-based Dermal fillers in Draper can last anywhere from six to 24 months. The factors that affect the longevity of treatment include the areas being treated, your skin health, your overall health, and the specific formulation used.
Once we identify the most effective formulations to achieve your unique desired aesthetic, we can give you an idea of how long you can expect the results of your treatment to last. We will also give you advice regarding how to extend the results of your treatment, including how to care for your skin and overall health.
What Areas Can Be Treated With Injectable Fillers?
You can treat a number of areas with hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Sometimes, these fillers are used to add volume to the hands to hide protruding bones or veins. They can even be used to smooth wrinkles on the backs of the hands. However, most of the time, they are used to contour the chin and jaw region or re-contour the middle face.
Which Filler Is Right for Me?
Most of our clients find they need several fillers to achieve their ideal aesthetic. Some of them are multi-purpose, but most of them have been extensively researched, tested, and designed for one purpose:
- Vertical lip lines – Volbella XC and Ultra XC
- Thin lips – Volbella XC and Vollure XC
- Crepey skin – Volbella XC and Ultra XC
- Deep smile lines – Vollure XC Ultra Plus XC
- Deep nasolabial folds – Vollure, Belotero, Sculptra
- Gaunt cheeks – Voluma
- Lipoatrophy – Voluma XC, Radiesse, Sculptra
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
Before treatment, we will sanitize the treatment area with an alcohol-based cleanser. This mitigates any risk of infection and ensures a safe, effective treatment session. Next, we will clearly mark the injection points. At this point, we usually administer the filler to the appropriate depth beneath the skin for the most effective results.
Most of the formulations we offer include lidocaine, indicated by “XC” at the end of the formula name. If you are allergic to lidocaine, please let us know during your initial consultation so we can accommodate your unique needs. You may choose to receive a topical anesthetic cream or opt out of a topical anesthetic altogether.
What Does Treatment Feel Like?
During your treatment session, you will experience neither pain nor discomfort. If you do not have the treatment area numbed, you will feel a slight pinch as the needle penetrates your skin. However, the needle used is so fine that there is nothing uncomfortable about this pinch, even without anesthesia. Anesthesia is only used for clients who don’t like needles.
How Soon Will I See Results?
You will see the initial results of treatment immediately. The hyaluronic acid itself adds volume to the treatment area, but the benefits don’t stop there. When the needle penetrates your skin, it encourages your body to produce stronger, healthier collagen. This collagen production leads to lasting volume and tight, smooth, healthy-looking skin.
Collagen production is a process that cannot be rushed. It will take around six weeks to start seeing the results of collagen induction. This is perfect timing as this is roughly when your body has consumed the hyaluronic acid and results begin to fade. The final results of collagen induction can be seen and felt roughly two to three months after treatment.
How Should I Prepare for Treatment?
To prepare for your treatment session, you should stop the use of corticosteroid injections, NSAIDs, MAOIs, and garlic supplements. You should also limit your consumption of apples, vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, and fish oil supplements. Boost your vitamin K consumption by taking supplements or eating spinach, kale, and celery for one week.
Do your best to eat a large, well-balanced meal before you come in for your treatment. Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to treatment and eat a snack right before treatment.
